You’ve heard of GPT-3, now get ready for GPT-4, OpenAI’s multimodal language model. What makes it different than its predecessor is that it can see – meaning it can process image inputs and translate it into image- or text-based responses. And, it’s significantly stronger and smarter than GPT-3.

It’s more powerful than GPT three, so powerful that even open AI CEO is a little scared of it, which we’ll get into later. GPT four is just one kind of generative AI. And while the future of GPT four and other generative AI models show a lot of promise, they also come with logistical and ethical concerns.

It generates content by predicting the next most likely word or phrase given the context. The big differentiator is that GPT four, unlike GPT, three can see it’s multimodal, which means it can work with both images and text. For example, a user can feed GPT a hastily drawn wireframe like this, and it will write the HTML in Java to code the website. GPT four is also more steerable than GPT three, meaning it can better infer the user’s intentions without repeated prompting.
The multimodal model is rumored to have over 1 trillion parameters the measure of a models intelligence, while GPT three has a mere 175 billion parameters. GPT four is so smart it passed the uniform bar exam and LSAT with flying colors and is more proficient than GPT 3.5 Chat GPTs underlying language model in over 20 different languages. On a more dystopian note tests found that it could exhibit power seeking behavior. It tricked a human into solving a CAPTCHA test for it by pretending to be blind. Open AI is unraveling the model slowly to ensure that such a powerful tool is used safely and is calling for AI regulation as similar models and tools based on GPT. Four begin to pop up elsewhere.
